General
What is Willit?
Willit is a local food platform and a network of intelligent pickup points. A producer lists products online and brings them to a cold zone at a pickup point, and the customer collects the purchase with a code at any time. The same platform runs willit.fi and lahikalaa.fi in production.
Where are the pickup points located?
The first pickup points open in the Oulu region. The container-based point is movable and replicable, so the network grows one point at a time wherever producers and buyers are. The platform is not tied to one region.
When does the first point open?
The first point is being built and some devices are still in commissioning. We do not promise dates in advance; we tell you the pilot status directly. Get in touch for the current situation.
Ordering and pickup
How does ordering work?
You order the products online and get a pickup code. The door opens with the code, and your products wait in the right cold zone. Every opening is logged, so the point runs without staff.
Do I need a smartphone or an app?
No. The door also opens with a door button, without a phone. This lowers the barrier especially for older customers.
Can I buy without a pre-order?
Yes. The same point serves a pre-order collection, a producer's restocking visit, and a walk-up purchase.
When can I pick up?
The point is open 24/7. You collect when it suits you, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Food safety and origin
How is the cold chain ensured?
The point has adjustable cold zones: -18 °C for frozen goods, 0-2 °C for the most sensitive fresh products, and 0-6 °C for other chilled products. Temperature is monitored continuously with BLE sensors, and a deviation raises an alert immediately, not the next day.
How do I know where the food comes from?
Every product carries the record of who made it, where, and when. The label identifier ties the product to its origin, its temperature history, and the pickup confirmation.
Are the regulatory requirements met?
Yes. Temperature monitoring and food-safety records are documented automatically per the EU food hygiene regulation (EC) 852/2004. The producer's records are created as a by-product of selling, not as separate paperwork.
For producers
Who can sell through Willit?
Small producers, fishers, hunters, and gatherers of wild produce. You need a hygiene passport, packaged products, and food-safety records, which the platform helps document. Selling game requires veterinary inspection.
What does selling cost?
We do not publish a price list on this site, because pricing is agreed case by case during the pilot phase. Registration is free. Get in touch and we will tell you directly what your case would cost.
How do I get started?
Register as a producer at willit.fi, list your products, and bring them to the nearest pickup point. You get an onboarding as part of the rollout.
Food resilience and disruptions
How does Willit help if the normal food chain is disrupted?
The Willit network is local and decentralized: the region's producers, buyers, payments, and cold chain are already in the same system in everyday life. When the long chain breaks, the local chain continues, because nothing new has to be built at the moment of disruption.
Does Willit replace the grocery store or national security of supply?
No. Willit is a parallel local chain that reduces dependency on a single route. It complements grocery retail and the national security-of-supply system rather than competing with them.
Does a point work during a power outage?
A point needs electricity for its cold appliances like any cold room. The network's strength in a disruption is the short and decentralized chain, not any single point being immune to outages. Temperature monitoring shows immediately if the cold chain is at risk.
