Willit

Concept

What is the Willit Pickup Container?

The Willit Pickup Container is a wild food pickup point, open 24/7. Foraged berries, mushrooms, wild herbs, game, wild fish, and wild-food preserves from one container, all in a cold chain. A standard 20-foot shipping container is transformed into a branded Nordic kiosk: cold chain, payment, and food safety compliance are built in. The concept is modular and replicable anywhere; the first pilot opens in Oulu in summer 2026.

Wild food at the centre

The pickup container is built for wild food and its preserves. Local producers fit alongside, with cold chain, payments, and food safety compliance handled automatically regardless of product type.

  • Foraged products: berries, mushrooms, wild herbs, frozen goods (-18 °C)
  • Game and wild fish: moose, deer, forest fowl, perch, pike, vendace (0-2 °C)
  • Wild-food preserves: jams, conserves, dried products, herb salts
  • Local producers alongside: artisan drinks, baked goods, farm products

Container sizes and configurations

The pilot starts with a 20-foot container, and the concept is designed to scale to larger formats as customer volume grows. Furniture is modular and interchangeable.

20 ft (pilot)

6058 × 2438 mm, a compact Nordic kiosk for a single location

40 ft

12192 × 2438 mm, larger capacity and more producers under one roof

High Cube

Taller container for bigger shelving and a more visible exterior

Custom

A modular set of multiple containers, tailored to the location and producer mix

The Oulu pilot, summer 2026

The first Willit Pickup Container opens in Oulu in summer 2026. The pilot is being designed with producers, local designers, and commercial partners, and its goal is to prove the concept in practice: how the container works, customer flow, producer onboarding, the cold chain, and food safety compliance, all in one package.

  • Located in Oulu, exact site to be confirmed with the partner
  • Visual identity built around a Nordic nature theme and the Willit brand
  • Producer mix drawn from foragers, hunters, fishers, and wild-food processors, with local artisans and fresh-food entrepreneurs alongside
  • Lessons from the pilot feed directly into the next container locations
  • Interested producers and site partners can sign up to take part now

Location strategy

Containers are not placed at random. Each location is calculated to match customer flow and producer mix: the right container in the right place, close to the right customers. The concept scales from city to city and country to country.

Technology

Cold chain in the container

Adjustable cold zones for frozen, fish, and other chilled products. The container is designed to run on a standard 32A connection.

BLE temperature monitoring

Built-in energy-efficient Bluetooth tracking logs temperature continuously. Alerts go to the producer and to Willit.

Smart access control

Customers pick up products securely via the app or a code. Open hours can be adjusted as needed.

Inventory management

Add products, manage expiry dates, and remove items from sale automatically, all on one platform.

Food safety and compliance

Willit handles self-monitoring plan (omavalvontasuunnitelma) requirements for you. The system meets EU Regulation (EC) 852/2004 and Finnish Food Authority (Ruokavirasto) requirements. Only packaged products are sold in unmanned self-service.

Temperature monitoring

IoT sensors log temperature continuously at least every 15 minutes. Adjustable temperature zones: -18 °C for frozen products, 0-2 °C for fresh fish, 2-8 °C for other chilled products. Automatic alerts for deviations.

HACCP hazard analysis

Critical control points (CCPs) identified, limits defined, and corrective actions documented automatically.

Traceability

Every product traceable to the seller and collection date. "One step back, one step forward" implemented automatically.

Expiry management

Products are automatically removed from sale after their use-by date. No manual tracking needed.

Cleaning and calibration

Written cleaning plan with schedules. Sensor calibration schedule. All records documented digitally.

Emergency and recall procedures

Documented action plan for disruptions (power outage, equipment failure). Recall process ready if a product needs to be withdrawn from market.

Record retention

Digital logs stored automatically for at least 1 year after the product use-by date.

Producer requirements

Hygiene passport required from all producers. One food premises notification covers all containers under the same operation.
